Good day, as Premier of the Virgin Islands, I am pleased to report on progress with our recovery efforts following the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Devastation is obvious to all, but I want you to know that your Government is committed to leading the Territory through this challenging time.
At 11:00 p.m. the eye of Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 17.4 North, longitude 61.1 West. Irma has now taken a west-northwest track near 15 mph, and this motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days.
His Excellency the Governor Augustus Jaspert in consultation with Premier, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE and the Director of the Department of Disaster Management has activated the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
His Excellency the Governor Mr. Augustus Jaspert, in consultation with the Premier of the Virgin Islands Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE and the Deputy Governor Mrs. Rosalie Adams, have decided to close all Government offices today, September 4 at 4:30 p.m.
