Role Summary

The successful applicant will assist with livestock development plans, farming community assessments, education and the procurement of necessary supplies in order to ensure effective and efficient agricultural management.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Assist with the planning and supervision of the programmes for livestock development throughout the Territory to ensure effective and efficient agricultural management.
  2. Assist with making on-going assessments for the livestock needs of the farming community and collect information of farming breed, feeding, housing and management in order to develop the necessary programmes that will be of assistance to agricultural workers.
  3. Assist with sourcing and procuring livestock supplies and equipment to ensure that the necessary resources are available when required.
  4. Assist with the preparation of reports as required.
  5. Assist with in-service training programmes and public education and awareness campaigns in order to increase the awareness of agricultural issues such as the incidence and spread of diseases between animals and humans.
  6. Perform any other related duties as required by Supervisor or any other senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certificate in General Agricultural Science
  • Two (2) years related experience
  • Valid BVI driver’s license required
  • Good knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
  • Good knowledge of agricultural practices, theory and principles and techniques in modern livestock production
  • Basic knowledge of international and territorial laws and regulations pertaining to the livestock industry
  • Good knowledge of the relevant computer software including word processing
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Basic knowledge and/or experience in reproductive physiology and livestock health
  • Good interpersonal and organisational skills
