Role Summary
The role of Principal Crown Counsel assists in management of the Chambers , supervision of Crown Counsel, Supervises legal staff, ensures that the Summary Court is managed and deputises for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Main Responsibilities
1..Reports to the Director of Public Prosecutions;
2. Prosecutes serious Summary Court, High Court Trials and Appeal trials
3. Prepares opinions and legal documents and instructs on the preparation, filing and service of these documents;
4. Prepares vettings and advice for Law Enforcement case Files
5. Reviews vettings, and advice prepared by the Paralegal, Crown Counsel and Senior Crown Counsel
6. Manages Summary Court, as assigned.
7. Supervises and leads Senior Crown Counsel and Crown Counsel in the prosecution of cases;
8. Deputises for the Director of Public Prosecutions;
9. Assists the Director of Public Prosecutions with the supervision of the staff;
10. Advises law enforcement Agencies during their investigation of cases and vets charges laid or to be laid by them.
11. Participates on Government committees and tribunals as instructed by the Director of Public prosecutions
12. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a trained Barrister that received qualification from an approved Bar School in the United Kingdom or from the University of the West Indies
Bachelor’s Degree in Law
Legal Practitioner’s Certificate Seven (7) years post qualification experience
Must have sufficient experience in criminal litigation
Excellent knowledge of Criminal law and litigation
Must have experience in Proceeds of Crime , Anti Money laundering, Terrorist Financing
Excellent advocacy skills
Good knowledge of statutes and statutory interpretation
Working knowledge of Government procedures and administration
Good interpersonal skills
Good oral and written communication skills
