Role Summary

The successful applicant will coordinate and supervise the initiatives, activities and staff of the National Business Bureau to ensure steady growth and development in the small and medium business sector.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Manage and supervise the National Business Bureau’s staff.
  2. Assist with formulating and implementing strategies for the National Business Bureau programmes for training, technical and financial assistance, and youth entrepreneur development.
  3. Assist with preparing and overseeing the implementation of the annual strategic plan for the National Business Bureau.
  4. Research and assess the needs of the local small and medium size business community and develop, promote and evaluate programmes, services, activities and information materials to meet the needs.
  5. Provide business counselling and coaching to small and medium business owners and prospective owners.
  6. Assist with the internal operational procedures of the Government’s Guarantee Programme in collaboration with the National Bank of the Virgin Islands.
  7. Work in partnership with the H.L. Stoutt Community College Small Business Institute at the Paraquita Bay campus in the area of business development and training of local small and medium enterprises.
  8. Liaise with stakeholder agencies and small business associations on matters pertaining to issues affecting the small businesses within the Territory.
  9. Perform any other related duties as required by Supervisor or any senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Management, Public Administration or related field
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years related working experience
  • Three (3) to five (5) years management experience
  • Sound knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
  • Sound knowledge of the global trading system
  • Expert knowledge of the of small business and medium sized enterprises industry locally and regionally
  • Expert knowledge of entrepreneurship
  • Sound knowledge of the local, regional and international economies
  • Sound oral and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of the use of standard office equipment and computer applications
  • Sound analytical and decision-making skills
  • Sound interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
