Dr. Richard Georges is the Literary and Cultural Ambassador responsible for promoting the understanding of and appreciation for Virgin Islands history and cultural heritage through poetry.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, has emphasised the economic benefits of embracing Virgin Islands’ culture, adding that it will provide a livelihood to the Territory’s cultural artisans.
I acknowledge the protocol which has already been established, and I again welcome you to the beginning of our very first Culture and Tourism Month. I will take this opportunity to give some context for the fusion of culture and tourism in the month of November and clearly articulate a very clear vision for culture during my tenure as Culture Minister.
The Territory is celebrating its first Culture and Tourism Month during November under the theme, “BVILove is our Culture” and slogan “Virgin Islands Cultural Roots Run Deep. Unity and Togetherness are the Crops We Reap!”
The Department of Culture, in collaboration with the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission, has three exciting events scheduled this week for Culture and Tourism Month.

Today marks the commencement of a very special merger and it is good that we are all here to witness it. On this day we formerly mold all that we are as a Virgin Islands community and people with a vital part of our economy. This is a fitting and right partnership and I wish to first and foremost commend the visionaries behind this plan.
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture has received eight unique pieces of artwork from the Virgin Islands Communal Association (VICA) during the opening ceremony of Culture and Tourism Month on November 1.
The Virgin Islands’ first ever Culture and Tourism Month will be observed in November with a food fair which will incorporate a Schools’ Arts Festival.
Toriah Pryce is the winner of the 2020 Gen Y Factor Glee Edition: Battle of the Schools. Ms. Pryce who is a student of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre took the prizes for both segments: Groovy and Power along with five thousand dollars.
