ROLE SUMMARY
The successful applicant will assist the agricultural sector in agronomy, produce and development matters in order to facilitate the sustainable growth of the agricultural sector in the Territory.
MAIN RESPONSIBILTIES
- Design, implement and participate long term strategies in order to be responsive to the needs of the Agricultural sector.
- Attend meetings as required, draft reports as required and consult with the Chief Agricultural Officer in relation to any arising matters in order to facilitate effective information flow.
- Coordinate educational programmes and workshops to ensure that the professional developments of the workforce and Agricultural sector are met.
- Assist in the collection and tabulation of crop damage assessments and identify markets for farmers and provide suitable prices for farmers in order to facilitate the sustainability of the Agricultural sector.
- Undertake research as required in order to assist in the formulation of reports, developments or amendment of legislation.
- Perform any other related duties as required by Supervisor or any other senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science or related field
- Three (3) to five (5) years related experience
- Sound knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
- Sound knowledge of applicable policies, regulations and laws
- Sound knowledge of basic/routine surgical and medication procedures
- Sound knowledge of abattoir operations and meat inspection procedures
- Sound knowledge of common animal diseases/food borne and zoonotic disease/recognition of important and common disease causing organisms; diagnosis, treatment/management, control/prevention.
- Sound knowledge of animal related disease: significant, diagnosis and treatment/control/prevention
- Sound knowledge of animal behaviour as well as physical and chemical restraint
- Sound interpersonal skills
- Sound oral and written communication skills
