ROLE SUMMARY
The successful applicant will oversee the activities of the Electrical Inspection Unit in the electrical and mechanical inspections of new buildings, and periodic inspections of existing buildings to ensure a safe and well-functioning work environment.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as Government’s chief advisor on electrical matters and oversee the activities of the Electrical Inspection
- Unit in the electrical and mechanical inspections of new buildings, and periodic inspections of existing buildings to ensure a safe and well-functioning work environment.
- Receive and address complaints and concerns relating to electrical matters.
- Develop and review testing instrument used to examine persons interested in obtaining electrical inspection licences and to approve and issue licences subject to passing of the prescribed examination.
- Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with design specification and safety codes.
- Review reports relating to building fires and provide advice to the relevant agencies for necessary action.
- Supervise assigned staff.
- Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor or senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related area
- Seven (7) years’ experience in electrical field
- Certified Professional Engineer
- Sound knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
- Sound knowledge of International and BVI Electrical Codes
- Excellent knowledge of design, development and testing of electrical system
- Expert knowledge of grounding
- Sound knowledge of the use of standard office equipment
- Sound analytical and decision-making skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Good supervisory and management skills
