ROLE SUMMARY

The successful applicant will attend upon the Speaker of the House of Assembly during meetings of the House and any other official function, to ensure that all his/her requirements are met to enable him/her to fulfil the expectations of his/her role and to oversee the management, maintenance and security of the buildings and grounds of the House of Assembly Office and Chambers, to ensure that the facilities are maintained in line with policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of users at all times.

MAIN RESPONSIBILTIES

  1. Act as chief security/transport officer to the Speaker, Leader of the Opposition and other Members to the House of Assembly to ensure they are transported to and from the House of Assembly in a timely manner.
  2. Ensure the proper maintenance and operation of the vehicles designated to the Speaker and Leader of the Opposition to ensure they are safe and ready for use as required.
  3. Uphold law and order throughout the precinct of the House and remove any persons directed by the Speaker to withdraw from the House to ensure the security of the Speaker and other Members of the House of Assembly as necessary.
  4. Supervise Cleaners to ensure to that the House of Assembly is presented to the highest standard at all times. Appraise Cleaners’ performance and address complaints to ensure appropriate action is taken in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  5. Liaise with security companies, Public Works and any other internal and external agencies in order to ensure the proper upkeep and maintenance of buildings and grounds of the House of Assembly Office and Chamber.
  6. Assist the Clerk with the distribution of papers and other documents during Sittings and Committee meetings to ensure that Members are able to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively.
  7. Supervise and control the admission of Press representatives, visitors and members of the public to the Office of the House of Assembly and remove disorderly persons to ensure the orderly conduct and security of the Parliament and Assembly Office at all times.
  8. Assist the Clerk with preparation of the Chamber in relation to special Sittings of the House.
  9. Assist with the coordination of security arrangements for visiting delegates as needed.
  10. Provide advice to the Clerk and Members of the House of Assembly on matters pertaining to security.
  11. Conduct public tours of the House of Assembly Chamber and Offices as necessary.
  12. Perform any other duties as required by the supervisor or senior officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree in Management or related area
  • Three (3) years background experience in security services
  • Five (5) years background experience in uniform services (i.e. ex-police officer at the rank of Sergeant or above)
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Sound knowledge of the Government structure, policies and procedures
  • Sound knowledge of effective security procedures
  • Sound knowledge of procedures and history of Legislature
  • Sound knowledge of the use of standard office equipment and computer applications
  • Sound oral and written communication skills
  • Sound interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Ability to maintain respectful distance and impartial relationship with all Members of the House of Assembly
  • Good time management and organisational skills
