Role Summary

The successful applicant will assist with managing and supervising assigned construction projects, such as buildings, roads, bridges, hydraulic works and other civil engineering projects in a timely and professional manner and prepare preliminary designs for petty contracts and assist Engineers with various designs, contract supervision and other assignments in a professional and timely manner.

Main Responsibilities

  1. File construction documents as the need arises to maintain a tidy and efficient working environment and to ensure accurate records are available for reference.
  2. Prepare simple engineering sketches, designs and drawing specifications, as well as prepare calculations for simple projects.
  3. Assist with planning, implementing, designing and construction of projects on behalf of the Government to maintain effective management.
  4. Prepare detailed technical project reports for assigned projects in a professional and timely manner.
  5. Prepare project evaluations for progress payments on outstanding contracts as well as certificates for specifications and material requirements to ensure effective credit and budget control within the Department.
  6. Assist with documents required for construction tender process to assist with the selling process.
  7. Provide assistance to Trainee Technician or assigned staff on projects to ensure the correct departmental procedures are followed and work is completed at an acceptable standard.
  8. Prepare simple bill of quantities for minor projects as well as sketches and drawings for retaining walls, curb walls, drain and roads to assist Engineers with their work.
  9. Assist with the preparation of feasibility of cost estimates for government projects to ensure the Department does not exceed its allowed expenditure.
  10. Evaluate projects and make recommendations for payment to ensure the smooth running of the Department and its project.
  11. Assist with the assessment of labour and material variation claims to ensure inventory and resources are available at all times.
  12. Assist with the preparation of project closeout and project status reports as well as taking field measurements in a professional and timely manner.
  13. Perform any other related duties as required by Supervisor or any Senior Officer in order to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years working experience in the construction field
  • Basic knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
  • Good knowledge of computerized architectural programs with a focus on AutoCAD
  • Good knowledge of structural engineering design
  • Good sketching and drawing skills
  • Good knowledge of the importance of safety in construction works
  • Basic oral and written communication skills
  • Basic organisational and interpersonal skills
