Minister for Communication and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer has announced that American Airlines will be adding additional flights to the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport due to the high demand in ticket sales.

Honourable Rymer made the announcement in a statement at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the First Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth House of Assembly.

“We must at this time, celebrate our upcoming historic event of having to welcome the first commercial direct flight from Miami to the Virgin Islands,” the minister said. He added, “When you go on American Airlines it is flight 3989 and on June 1, we will be welcoming guests on that inaugural flight.”

Honourable Rymer stated that approval was granted by the airline to announce that the demand is so high that there will be an additional flight on that first day.

The minister said, “American Airlines have committed to five additional flights for the month of June. So we will see on the third of June, two flights, the ninth, two flights, the sixteenth, two flights, and on the thirtieth, we would have two American flights landing here.” 

Honourable Rymer has extended an invitation to the Territory’s residents to turn out in their numbers to the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on June 1 to celebrate the inaugural American Airlines flight from Miami. He also mentioned that the city of Tamarac, Florida will name June 1 as Virgin Islands Day with a ceremony. The minister said plans are in place for him to attend the event where the Virgin Islands delegation will be given the keys to the city.
