ANSWER TO QUESTIONS BY THE THIRD DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE TOTHE DEPUTY PREMIER AND MINISTER FOR NATURALRESOURCES AND LABOUR

The Member for the Third District to ask the Honourable Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour the following questions:

Question 1

Madam Speaker, could the Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour please tell this Honourable House:

  1. The current number of Work Permits issued to skilled workers since Hurricane Irma?

       b)  How many family members accompanied these skilled workers?

Answer to Question 1

  1. Madam Speaker, as of 27th November, 2018, the Ministry of Natural Resources & Labour along with the Labour Department has processed a total of Three Thousand Six Hundred and Ninety Three (3,693) applications that were made to the Honourable Minister and the Labour Department, for persons to enter the Territory to assist with recovery under the Work Permit Waiver for Skilled Workers Initiative and Skilled Workers Program respectively. 

Madam Speaker, the above total represents applications made to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour which amounts to One Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty Three (1,983) applications, for Skilled Workers Waivers, during the period 8 June to 19 November, 2018. Along with applications made to the Labour Department which is One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ten (1,710) for the period October 2017 to 6 June, 2018. 

  1. Madam Speaker, for the inception of both the Skilled Workers Program and the Work Permit Waiver Initiative for Skilled Workers, no official requests were made to the Ministry of Natural Resources & Labour, the Labour Department or the Immigration Department for family members to accompany these applicants.

             Question 2

Madam Speaker, could the Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour please provide a breakdown of the relationships, spouse, child etc. and indicate how many have Work Permits, and how many are attending school.

Madam Speaker, as there were no such requests, there are no statistics to support this question.
