The Ministry of Health and Social Development is partnering with Lifestyle Medicine Institute to assist with the prevention and reduction of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors.

As part of the agreement, Lifestyle Medicine Institute will introduce the ‘Complete Health Improvement Program’ also known as CHIP to residents of the Virgin Islands.  CHIP educates those who suffer from diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and other chronic diseases on the principles to living the optimal lifestyle.

The institute’s founder, Dr. Hans Diehl will be visiting the Virgin Islands from July 8 to 10 to meet with stakeholders in health care, businesses, NCDs, non-governmental organisations, social clubs, health officials and the public to present on the Complete Health Improvement Program.

Coordinator of Health Promotion Services in the Ministry of Health and Social Development, Ms. Ivy George said, “Dr. Diehl and his team have been fighting the rise of chronic diseases using CHIP as a proven lifestyle medicine solution internationally for the last 30 years.  Over 80,000 persons in the US alone have gone through this programme with proven results and we are honoured to have him here to help address our NCD issue.”

The public is invited to attend an Open Forum on Tortola at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9. While Virgin Gorda residents are invited to attend a public meeting at the Catholic Community Centre from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Diehl will share the latest development in lifestyle medicine and its impact on chronic diseases and their risk factors as well as present on what persons can expect from the Complete Health Improvement Program, training opportunities and more.
