Contractors and suppliers have another opportunity to gain access to information and practical tools for preparing successful bids for the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) funded projects at a workshop this week.

The workshop is a collaborative initiative between the Government of the Virgin Islands, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Caribbean Development Bank. The workshop will be held at the Top Priority Security Conference room on Thursday, October 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Director of Projects in the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Drexel Glasgow said the procurement workshop is a part of the efforts to accelerate the implementation of CDB Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Loan (RRL), to strengthen capabilities of local businesses for timely and efficient implementation of the loan.

The training will be facilitated by experts from UNDP and will primarily target contractors and suppliers, to improve their capacity to effectively respond to bidding opportunities available under the CDB loan.

Dr. Glasgow said, “The training sessions will focus on CDB’s Procurement Guidelines including bid documents, bidder qualification requirements, joint venture arrangements, and common errors observed in bidding among other areas.  The workshop is an excellent opportunity for contractors and suppliers to become familiar with the requirements and successfully prepare competitive bids. I recommend all local businesses with a stake in the construction industry to be a part of this opportunity.”

Public Officers will also undergo training to aid in the execution of this project in an effective and efficient manner.

“We are also training Public Officers to provide a direct response to the increasing demand for procurement specialist to service development projects financed by CDB.  This will enable us to effectively service public procurement operation whether financed by the Government and other development partners,” Dr. Glasgow added.

The event has a registration requirement and interested persons are encouraged to register by e-mailing felicia.robinson@undp.org or telephone 468- 5930.

The Government of the Virgin Islands remains committed to building the Territory stronger, smarter, greener, better and more resilient.
