The Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services Department is urging the public to continue to demonstrate mindfulness and use precautionary measures in controlled burning during this extremely dry period.

The department is advising residents to reduce backyard or pasture burning which can also be a nuisance to neighbours by adversely affecting persons with asthma and causing respiratory problems. In addition, backyard or pasture burning also negatively impacts the environment and contributes to global warming.

The department thanks the community for their continued cooperation during the dry season.
