New Centenarian Mrs. Esmie Estene Turnbull-Stoutt is the first Virgin Islander to receive the Government’s newly enhanced Centenarian Grant of $10,000 having reached the age of 100.

Mrs. Turnbull-Stoutt is the recipient of the grant following the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands recent decision to approve an increase to the Centenarian Grant, doubling the amount from $5,000 to $10,000 in recognition of the Territory’s growing population of seniors and the invaluable contributions they have made to society.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent Wheatley, paid tribute to Mrs. Turnbull-Stoutt, noting that reaching the age of 100 is a remarkable milestone — one that reflects not only personal resilience but also a life of meaningful contribution.

Honourable Wheatley said, “Mrs. Turnbull-Stoutt like many of our centenarians, has played a vital role in shaping the Virgin Islands through her wisdom, hard work, and unwavering commitment to community and family.”

Minister Wheatley added, “I must commend the Social Development Department for recognising and celebrating our centenarians in such meaningful ways. As people live longer, it is essential that they also live better — with dignity, a sense of purpose, and the full support of their families and communities.”

The Centenarian Grant is a key part of the Government of the Virgin Island’s ongoing commitment to honouring the Territory’s seniors and enhancing their quality of life.

There are currently seven other centenarians in the Virgin Islands:
