The Ministry of Health and Social Development has announced the appointment of three individuals to the Social Security Board Appeals Tribunal.
Mr. Michael Maduro, Ms. Solika Carey and Ms. Lorna Christopher will serve a two-year term, retroactive to October 11, 2024.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley welcomed the appointments, stating that the Social Security Board Appeals Tribunal serves a critical function in ensuring that the rights and interests of all parties are fairly considered.
Honourable Wheatley said, “I am confident that the newly appointed members, with their wealth of experience and dedication, will contribute significantly to the Tribunal's work. We appreciate their willingness to serve and look forward to the positive impact they will have.”
Mr. Michael Maduro has been appointed as Chairman of the Tribunal. A barrister-at-law with over 14 years of experience in the legal field, Mr. Maduro brings extensive expertise in legal and regulatory matters. He is affiliated with numerous local, regional, and international professional associations and is a licensed court-connected mediator.
Ms. Solika Carey joins the Tribunal as the employee representative. With over 10 years of legal practice in the Virgin Islands and 22 years of experience in the financial services industry, Ms. Carey brings a wealth of knowledge and insight into employment and financial matters that will be invaluable to the Tribunal’s work.
Ms. Lorna Christopher has been appointed as the representative of employers. A retired public officer, Ms. Christopher’s extensive experience in the public sector and deep understanding of administrative processes will contribute to the Tribunal’s efficient operations.
The Social Security Board Appeals Tribunal plays a vital role in ensuring fair and just adjudication of disputes related to social security matters. The Government extends its gratitude to the newly appointed members for their willingness to serve and is confident that their expertise and experience will enhance the Tribunal’s effectiveness.
