PRESS STATEMENT
FROM GOVERNOR OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

MR JOHN RANKIN CMG

In consultation with the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition, I have invited the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association to observe the upcoming General Election on 24 April. The CPA team will be in the BVI from 17-27 April. This will be the fourth election in the BVI that the CPA have observed since 2011.

The Mission is an independent team of eight international observers, composed of parliamentarians, officials and analysts who will evaluate whether the electoral process adheres to international obligations and domestic laws.

The CPA Mission have begun to reach out to key stakeholders including officials, candidates, civil society, and members of the public, and meetings will take place in advance of the General Election.

Once they arrive in the BVI, the Mission will issue a statement and meet with members of the press. Initial findings will be published on Wednesday 26 April, and the Final Report including recommendations will be published within two months of the election date. All findings will be publicly available.
