Dog-owners and enthusiasts are reminded to register all pet dogs over the age of six months, with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Dog registration is a legal requirement for their owners under the Dogs (Prevention of Injury to Persons, Livestock and Poultry) Act, 2001 [No. 14 of 2001].

Owners are also reminded to adequately confine pets to a secure private area, such as a yard or home, and to adequately leash dogs in public.
