The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands has approved the COVID-19: Small Vessel Entry Protocol and the COVID-19: Water Taxi Protocols as part of recent significant changes to ensure the Territory continues to adjust its travel protocols with the aim of retruning livelihoods to normalcy and sustainability.

Cabinet approved the COVID-19 Small Vessel Entry Protocols to facilitate travel to the Territory on board marine vessels measuring less than 78 feet in length with fully vaccinated passengers and crew only. Cabinet also approved the COVID-19 Water Taxi Protocol which would provide practical guidance for the safe operation of BVI-based Water Taxis with fully vaccinated persons. This protocol is not presently intended to enable foreign-based Water Taxis to be able to operate commercially in the Territory.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone said several adjustments were made considering the safety of the population and the allowance afforded to persons who are fully vaccinated.

“Your Government continues to work for you to further reboot and revive the economy. The Ministry of Health and Social Development, the Premier’s Office, BVI Ports Authority, BVI Tourist Board, Taxi and Livery Commission, the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park along with other agencies have worked diligently to develop protocols for a healthy and safe return of the tourism sector,” Honourable Malone affirmed.

The Cabinet meeting was held on June 23 and was chaired by His Excellency, the Governor Mr. John J. Rankin, CMG.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development remains committed to providing leadership that promotes health, social well-being and a safe environment as positive resources for living and sustainable development.
