PRESS STATEMENT

FROM GOVERNOR OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

MR JOHN RANKIN CMG

As people in the BVI are aware, the House of Assembly convened yesterday following the findings of the Audit Report and Addendum on the Fast Track Residency and Belongership Programme.

The immediate concern for the recall of the House of Assembly was the potential impact of the findings of the Report on the upcoming General Election.

I am pleased that the House of Assembly agreed a way forward, passing legislation to validate the status of the 688 residents referred to in the Report, many of whom are registered to vote and most of whom have lived in the BVI for more than twenty years.

As I have stated previously, it is important that all reviews and audits are published, to ensure a continued commitment to transparency.

The Audit on the Fast Track Programme has now been laid in the House of Assembly and is hence now a public document. I am including a copy of the Audit with this press statement.

I look forward to working with whichever Government is formed after the General Election to help further ensure the good governance of the BVI.
