The gates of the Tortola Pier Park will be opened wide to welcome residents and visitors to the Grand Opening on December 22 at 5:15 p.m.

Eight months after the celebration for the completion of the expansion of the Pier on April 29, work continues to complete the park. The project is forecasted to be 90% complete by December 22 and Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Mark Vanterpool says that he is excited to see the Government’s vision for the people come to fruition.

Honourable Vanterpool said, “The New Pier Park looks beautiful. We have recreated the look of Main Street in town and it is a good feeling to stand on the bow of a ship and look out and see the beauty of not just the Pier Park but the beauty of Road Town and the mountains behind.”

The Minister said that not only is the Government satisfied with the progress so far, but that the various captains are also pleased to see the development of the expansion of the cruise pier and the Tortola Pier Park.

He said, “The captains are ecstatic and excited that they are able to come into the port without any concerns about whether or not it is deep enough or if they can maneuver. One captain in particular said that he has never been able to get into a port as easily in the Caribbean as he has here in the BVI.”

Honourable Vanterpool added that passengers are also impressed with the size of the pier, its feeling of safety and the welcoming feeling on arrival to port.

The Territory has been graced by a few new ships making inaugural calls to the port of Road Town in the cruise season so far. On November 20, the Queen Mary 2 berthed at the new pier for the very first time.

The public is invited to the festive event on December 22 at 5:15 p.m. Boat service will be provided for residents of Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke. More information about this service will be published on the Government’s website.
