Processing of applications for private cemeteries.

Process

Step 1:  Customer submits application to use an area as a private cemetery.

Step 2:  Ministry reviews application and verifies land ownership.

Step 3:  Ministry conducts site visit of proposed area in conjunction with the Environmental Health Department and the Town and Country Planning Department.

Step 4:  Ministry places a notice of the application in one issue of the Gazette and three consecutive issues of a local newspaper. Members of the public may lodge objections within specified timeframe (at least 14 days) of the area being used as a private cemetery. 

Step 5:  Ministry submits recommendation to Minister based on Steps 3 and 4. 

Step 6:  Minister approves application if he is satisfied or refuses application if he is not satisfied.

Step 7:  Ministry communicates decision to customer.
