The fruits of the 1949 Great March were monumental achievements by our fore parents. They have indelibly changed the political, social and economic landscape of our country, and the prospects of all the generations of Virgin Islanders since.

Greetings on behalf of the government and the resilient people of the British Virgin Islands. It is a distinct honor to address the 42nd Session of the UNESCO General Conference and to extend our warm congratulations to you, Madam President, on your well-deserved election. We wish you every success in the execution of your duties during this pivotal session.

A pleasant good afternoon to the members of the press corps, persons viewing via Facebook, and the wonderful people of the Virgin Islands.

I am happy to announce that the Ministry of Financial Services, Labour and Trade has established an ad hoc advisory committee to review the minimum wage in the Virgin Islands.

His Excellency, the Governor John, J. Rankin, CMG, chaired the meeting held on 27th October, 2023, which was held at the Premier's Conference Room.

Madam. Speaker, in December 2021, the OECD’s Global Forum launched its peer review of the Virgin Islands concerning the international standard for exchange of information upon request. 

Madam Speaker, I stand before you today to address a matter of significant importance to the maritime community and the economic vitality of the British Virgin Islands. 

I greet you today with a sense of deep purpose and urgency as we approach an important event in our calendar—Anti-Bullying Week 2023. This week holds immense significance, not only for our educational institutions but for our entire community.

I am delighted to announce the upcoming celebration of "Reading is Fun Week" in our beautiful territory, which will take place from Monday, October 9 to Friday, October 13, 2023, under the inspiring theme, "Reimagining Reading Beyond the Book." This week represents our unwavering commitment to enhancing the literacy skills of our students and fostering a lifelong love for reading.
