Good day Virgin Islanders and residents. Today on my daily brief, I am pleased to share with you an update on progress we have made thus far, following the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The BVI Airports Authority announces the phased approach closure of the Territory’s airports, starting today, Monday 4th September 2017, due to the passage of Hurricane Irma.

Citizens and residents of the Virgin Islands:
Earlier this afternoon, the Leader of the Opposition brought a Motion of No Confidence against the Minister of Finance, which failed to garner support from any other member of the House of Assembly.
The Government of the Virgin Islands recognising the need to improve airlift into the Territory for our visitors and residents alike, entered into an agreement with BVI Airways to provide the company with $7 million to operate direct flights between Miami and the British Virgin Islands.

In responding to a news release by BVI Airways on July 4, Premier and Minister of Finance said, “the Government has fully discharged its responsibility to BVI Airways by providing $7M as a subsidy in keeping with the terms of the agreement.”
The Government of the Virgin Islands is pleased to announce that, following a lengthy procurement process and very careful consideration between the 2 remaining bidders for the runway extension project of the T.B. Lettsome International Airport: China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and IDL/McAlpine Consortium; that CCCC was selected as the preferred Bidder for the project.
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE said he is pleased with the announcement by BVI Airways that its first BAe Avro RJ100 regional four engine jet, the Spirit of the Virgin Islands, will be arriving in the Territory at the end of this week for customary and usual flight demonstration and ground personnel training.
