Over 50 Shortfin pilot whales have died on the East End of Anegada and persons are urged not to attempt to move the stranded whales from the shore. The pod of whales was estimated to be some 150 observed in the area.

Today was the final day of the UN Ocean Conference and it presented the opportunity for the Virgin Islands to join the discussion at the Global Island Partnership (GILSPA) Presentation. The event was titled: "Weathering Governance Uncertainty of Large-Scale Conservation Projects – A Leader Perspective to the Dialogue”.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour, and the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands are seeking to recruit three (3) new board members for the National Parks Trust Board of Directors.

Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull pledged the commitment of Virgin Islands to do its part and work towards the sustainable development 2030 agenda as he gave his statement at the United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon, Portugal.

Excellencies, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentleman,  The British Virgin Islands is fully committed to implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14. We are following through on our obligations through a combination of marine conservation measures and the development of a sustainable blue economy. In this regard, good progress is being made on re-growing our mangrove forests and expanding our coral nurseries.

The public is being notified that remedial works are currently being done in the vicinity of Slaney Point to clear Sargassum seaweed in the Mangrove Cay.

Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull is in Lisbon Portugal attending the United Nations (UN) Ocean Conference from June 27 to July 1. Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour Mr. Joseph Smith-Abbott is also in attendance.

World Environment Day was observed with a tree planting exercise of Sea Grape seedlings at the Long Bay Beach Beef Island.
