Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley will attend the 9th OECS Council of Ministers: Human and Social Development and the inaugural meeting of the Joint Council of Ministers: Health, Human & Social Development and Education in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Minister will be accompanied by Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Miss Tasha Bertie. The meetings will be held from 10 to 11 September under the theme “Regional Development and Sustainability through Quality Education and Social Empowerment”.

The Disabilities Services remains steadfast in their mission to breakdown the stigma surrounding persons living with Down syndrome in the Virgin Islands.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is seeking qualified individuals interested in serving as Member (Representing Employees) on the Social Security Board Appeals Tribunal.

Residents on Virgin Gorda are notified that a social worker from the Social Development Department will host office hours at the Vanterpool Administration Building on Tuesdays and Fridays between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to address concerns related to social issues.

Persons will be seen by appointment only. Interested persons can contact the department at 468-9373.

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Marlon Penn has welcomed the commencement of a review of social assistance benefits and grants administration systems in the Virgin Islands.

Today marks the beginning of the Social Development Department’s registration process for persons transitioning from the House of Assembly Grants to the Public Assistance Programme.

This morning I have the privilege to outline the transitional grant process for the next three months from July – September 2022. I will further provide information on other support services available to needy households through the Social Development Department.

Today, I would like to update you on the progress we are making to streamline the disbursement of social assistance grants to persons in need.

The public is advised that the deadline for the COVID-19 Income Support Programme is extended to Friday, July 16.
