The public is invited to take the following measures to avoid food borne illnesses this holiday season.

  • Wash hands thoroughly and rinse with clean warm running water before preparing food.

  • Separate raw and cooked foods to avoid the transfer of bacteria.

  • Clean and sanitise food preparation areas and equipment by using one tablespoon of household bleach to a gallon of water to wipe counter tops.

  • If using cutting boards, use a separate sanitised board for raw foods, cooked foods, fruits and vegetables.

  • Remember when shopping; do not place raw meat, eggs, fish and poultry with vegetables, fruits and ready to eat foods in the same area of the cart or shopping bag.
