The Government of the Virgin Islands is inviting qualified residents on Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, and Virgin Gorda to serve as members on the Festival and Fairs Committee.
Interested persons should be deemed to belong to the Virgin Islands by birth or descent or a resident in the Virgin Islands for a minimum of 25 years and hold a certificate of belonger status for the same period.
Applicants should also possess management skills, cultural or event planning experience for a period of at least (3) three years working in event planning or coordination, culture development, and communications, graphic design, marketing or related experience.
Responsibilities include the planning and oversight of annual festivals and other entertainment activities; initiating cultural and recreational activities and encouraging public participation and understanding the cultural needs of the Territory.
Persons applying to serve on the committee should possess requisite leadership skills, sound knowledge of the Territory’s cultural heritage, knowledge, and/or have a willingness to learn about and analyse emerging issues in law and human rights, both locally and globally.
The Festival and Fairs Committee was established under Section 2 of the Festival and Fairs Act. The committee’s roles include preparing, conducting, and managing annual festival and other entertainment activities designated under Section 4 1 (b) “to initiate cultural and recreational activities and encourage public participation in those activities”.
