Food handlers and prospective vendors in Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke are urged to register for the upcoming 2017 Old Year’s Party.

Applications can be collected from the District Officer in Great Harbour and should be completed and returned to the Environmental Health Division one week prior to the event.

Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Lionel Michael said that all booths must have a temporary hand-washing station in place with liquid hand soap and disposal paper towels. He also noted that equipment for holding food at safe temperatures including coolers for ice; chaffing pans and sternos to keep foods hot; hair restraints and disposable gloves must also be present on site.

Booths will be inspected on the morning of December 29 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Unlicensed and unregistered food establishments will not be allowed to operate. Mr. Michael said, “We want to ensure that we prevent any incidence of food borne diseases at this specific event in particular and in the BVI in general.”

A Food Handlers Clinic will be held on Friday, December 15 at the Jost Van Dyke Primary School in Great Harbour for persons needing food handler certificates. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the session immediately following at 9:30 a.m. Persons renewing their food handlers’ certificates are required to bring their expired certificates, social security card, work permit and/or picture identification.
