The Governor of the Virgin Islands, His Excellency Mr. Daniel Pruce, hosted His Majesty The King’s Birthday Party last night (Wednesday 11 June). The annual celebration to mark the Monarch’s birthday was held at Government House, Tortola and paid tribute to His Majesty King Charles III as the Head of State in the Virgin Islands.
This year, in honour of His Majesty’s environmental advocacy and sustainability work, Government House ensured the event had minimal environmental impact by ensuring recyclable bamboo utensils were provided, single-use plastics were minimised and decorations were recycled.
With over 300 guests in attendance, community spirit shone at this year’s King’s Birthday Party. The Governor was delighted to welcome members of the community who have not previously attended the annual event including youth workers from the Botanic Gardens and National Parks Trust, Chevening scholars, ambassadors from WIN BVI (Women In Need) and many more volunteers and non-profit organisers.
The night’s event also rightly celebrated royal honours recipients. During his speech, the Governor took the opportunity to recognise the Virgin Islands’ honours recipients who were present and those who have passed, including the family of Mrs Marlene Penn-Trotman, who were in attendance.
Governor of the Virgin Islands, Mr Daniel Pruce, said: ‘It was an honour to host this year’s King’s Birthday celebration, a truly special occasion that reflected His Majesty’s enduring commitment to sustainability and community. In going green, we paid tribute to the King’s environmental leadership, and by welcoming honours recipients, volunteers and non-profit organisers from across the Territory, we celebrated the heart of our community. This year’s event was not just a party, but a powerful reminder of the values that unite us: care for our planet and care for each other.’
