Twenty-Five (25) Human Resources professionals throughout the Public Service have begun a Certification Programme with the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) through the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute.

The two-month programme commenced on April 9 and will provide the professionals with the behavioral competencies needed to succeed as well as the various domains of Human Resources technical expertise.

These include ethical practices, communications, relationship management, inclusion and diversity, consultation and analytical aptitude.

Permanent Secretary within the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Sharleen DaBreo-Lettome, MBE said, “The SHRM Certification Programme provides an important avenue for training and development that brings our Human Resources Professionals in line with international standards and expectations. Across the Public Service, our HR teams lead critical services related to maintaining and advancing our workforce. I am pleased to see these individuals take this step, and I wish them the very best.”

Once completed, the Human Resources Professionals will receive either the Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) designation along with an initial term of membership.

HR professionals engaged in a Meet and Greet in March as they prepared to begin their courses. The meet and greet allowed the 25 individuals to gather, get to know each other and forge closer bonds ahead of the official start on the certification programme.

The engagement of 25 professionals in the SHRM Certification programme aligns with the newly established vision for Human Resources in the Public Service, which seeks to establish individuals in the field as agile, responsive and able to meet the evolving needs of a transforming Public Service.
