Hundreds of public officers gathered at the Multipurpose Sports Complex to witness the launch of the  Public Service of the Virgin Islands’ ‘One Government, One Identity, One Public Service’ campaign on Tuesday, June 21.

The campaign outlines the values, principles and standards that will govern all public officers. The officers were introduced to the vision, mission, aim, principles and behaviors to be embraced in a presentation shared by Change Leader, Ms. Michelle Todman of Cerulean Consulting.

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. John S. Duncan, OBE in his remarks said, “A career as a Public Servant is about choice. It is about a decision to serve your community, whether it is only for a few years before going on to something else, or for a professional lifetime dedicated to making your community a better place, improving the services we provide to the public. It is not about the money. It is what it says on the tin – public service.”

The Governor said the tagline for the programme will share what success will look like. He said, “This means there is no “THEM”. We are all working together for a better society and to improve the services for our community – whether that is as the man or woman clearing the road and ditches, the prosecutor in the DPP’s Office trying to bring criminals to justice, the Police Officer patrolling our streets to keep them safe, or the nursing staff looking after our sick and infirm. We are all in this together.”

The new logo for the Government of the Virgin Islands bearing the Cabinet approved Vigilate was also revealed and Government’s intranet portal was launched.

Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE said the day marked the continuation of a journey towards success for the Government of the Virgin Islands as it demonstrated unity and strength as One Government, with One Identity, delivering a unique brand of One Public Service.

Premier said, “I like this unique unified direction that we are moving in.  It has been long my vision for the Government of the Virgin Islands to deliver a “One-Stop-Shop” experience to all our customers.  We started it in the financial services industry, and I am pleased to see that it will soon be reflected in all sectors of Government.”

Premier Smith added, “Today we sound the clarion call that the transformation of our public service has begun, where there will be a marked change in the appearance and delivery of our services to the clients we serve.”

The new vision for the Public Service shared at the launch of One Government, One Identity, One Public Service campaign is “Public Service Excellence.”
