The Department of Waste Management is advising the community that their Pockwood Pond Incinerator facility is opened to the public daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Only garbage trucks with contracts to collect residential waste for the Department of Waste Management will be allowed onto the site after 6:30 p.m. The public is asked to fully cooperate with the department and adhere to operation guidelines of the facility.

Manager for the Department of Waste Management, Mr. Greg Massicote said, “We have been experiencing problems with the way that the public is using the site.  Persons are coming to the facility and not heeding the directions of the staff which is posing quite a problem for us.”

According to the Manager there is also a safety concern as the facility has not been operating at maximum capacity. “We need the community to assist us by following the instructions of our personnel to avoid safety related issues and fire hazards,” Mr. Massicote said.

Persons with questions and concerns can contact the department at telephone 468-4934 or via email at DWM@gov.vg.

The Department of Waste Management is committed to ensuring that the natural beauty of the Territory is enhanced by  utilising state of the art waste management technology to ensure timely collection disposal and where possible the recycling of waste.
