I acknowledge the protocol already established.

Ladies and gentleman, honoured guests.

It gives me great pleasure to extend congratulations to the BVI Government and the people of the British Virgin Islands on the occasion of the opening of the New Cruise Ship Pier.

The vision of this new facility has now become a reality and with this reality comes new responsibilities and expectations.  The Territory now has a cruise pier to rival that of the other Caribbean islands. Across the Territory the Private Sector have been refurbishing and refreshing our tourist facilities. This new Pier and the Terminal represents the Virgin Island Government’s contribution to that effort and today is an opportunity to profile our high quality tourist offer.

As a “Gateway” to our Territory the pier terminal will play an important role in maintaining tourism as a key pillar in the Virgin Islands economy. A shop window to Nature’s Little Secrets, where the type and quality of customer services offered are not only friendly and welcoming, but amongst the best in the region, allowing all tourists visiting our islands to have a more rewarding experience from the moment they step ashore.

This facility is one of which we should all be proud, visitors and residents alike.  Those working here will be the “ambassadors” for our Territory. The public and visitors alike will expect from them the highest levels of customer service for our guests. Our pride should extend to how we treat the facility and the services it will provides. It is our duty as residents, employees and business owners to assist in keeping the pier and the shopping grounds pristine.

On this very special day, that will soon be etched in the history of the British Virgin Islands, I would like to commend all those who worked hard and contributed in any positive way to project.  A particular thanks to our business partners here today Norwegian and Disney. I want to thank you all for turning a vision into reality.   I am sure that this Cruise Ship Pier will proudly serve the BVI Community and all those who visit our shores in search of a first class tourist experience.

My congratulations and best wishes to all.

John S. Duncan, OBE

Governor
