Library Week 2024

Monday 22nd April, 2024

Greetings one and all,

As we celebrate Library Week from April 22nd to April 27th, 2024, this week holds special significance as it coincides with World Book and Copyright Day on April 23rd, a day celebrated globally to promote the joy of reading and respect for intellectual property.

The theme for this year's Library Week is "Libraries: Moving full STEAM Upstream," highlighting the vital role that libraries play in advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education and innovation.

Throughout Library Week, we have set ambitious objectives to further engage our community with the wealth of resources available through our public libraries.

Firstly, we aim to promote our extensive eBook collection, which patrons can conveniently access using the Libby app—a gateway to a digital world of knowledge and entertainment.

Secondly, we want to encourage the use of library cards to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access and benefit library services across the territory.

Thirdly, we seek to promote and encourage participation in the diverse services offered by our libraries, ranging from educational programs to cultural activities.

Lastly, we are determined to expand our library membership, welcoming new individuals, schools and families into our vibrant community of readers and learners.

A highlight of Library Week will be the introduction of our eBook collection to the students of Willard Wheatley and Francis Lettsome Primary Schools, enriching their learning experience through digital resources.

The week's schedule includes a variety of engaging activities, such as science experiments, arts and crafts, storytelling sessions, and readings from local authors. We are particularly excited about the "Dads Reach Out & Read Programme" on Saturday, April 27th, organised in collaboration with the BVI Reading Council.

I encourage everyone to participate in the Library Week activities. Let us celebrate the power of knowledge and the joy of reading as we embrace the theme of "Moving full STEAM Upstream" together.

Thank you to our dedicated library staff and partners for their hard work in organising this exciting week. Let's make Library Week 2024 a resounding success!
