The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has received strong backing by the United Nations (UN) Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24) regarding the self-governance of the Territory and its right to self-determination at the recently concluded session of the C-24 at UN Headquarters from 14^th – 25^th June 2021.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie is away from the Territory until June 9 on personal leave.

Today, the Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie raised concerns during the Overseas Territories Joint Minister Council (JMC) meeting regarding language of the communiqué relating to a section on the Constitutional Relationship.

The public is encouraged to begin reviewing the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 as the Territory prepares to undertake the process of constitutional review. 

Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie has stated that the review of the current Constitution will be led by the people of the Virgin Islands when the Constitutional Review begins.

Mr. Speaker, I will now speak on Constitutional Review in the Virgin Islands.

The Virgin Islands is presently an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom (UK). The Virgin Islands’ first modern written constitution was enacted in 1950.

A week of activities has been planned by the BVI Supreme Court in conjunction with the BVI Bar Association to mark the 53^rd Anniversary of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
