The Department of Culture is conducting a series of workshops aimed at strengthening museum practices across the Territory in observation of International Museum Day 2025.
Junior Minister for Culture and Tourism Honourable Luce Hodge-Smith has said that there is a need for the building of a greater capacity in order to grow and develop heritage tourism in the Virgin Islands.
The biodiversity in the Old Government House Museum Gardens is being featured this week as the Virgin Islands observes International Museum Day. Member of the Museum's Board Ms. Ermin Penn said that a native plant garden is being developed at the Government House, which includes Virgin Islands' traditional medicinal plants.
As part of activities to observe International Museum Day, an exhibition was mounted by Trefle Designs for students at the Elmore Stoutt High School today. Ms. Kristin Frazer said her company featured recycled and upcycled natural and cultural materials in the evolution of fashion.
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley said that museums have played a critical role in preserving our culture and history in the Virgin Islands through documentation and record-keeping.
It is with great pleasure that I greet you today, on International Museum Day 2022. The theme for this year’s International Museum Day is “The Power of Museums.” The Department of Culture has once again organized related activities for the entire week 16th to the 21st of May.

The Office of the Governor is reminding the public that the Old Government House Museum welcomes visitors Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley said that he is very pleased that the Department of Culture will once again be drawing attention to museums in the Territory when it observes Museum Week.
