Mr. Speaker, I thank you for the opportunity to update this Honourable House and the Territory on the activities of the Social Security Board.

Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Honourable Vincent Wheatley has said that the Social Security Board is working to address the more than  7000 claims that have been submitted by residents who are unemployed or underemployed due to COVID-19.

 Mister Speaker, I am pleased to provide the following update relative to the unemployment / underemployment benefits.

Director of the Social Security Board, Mrs. Harriet Skelton and her supporting team observed the board’s 40^th Anniversary since its inception. Mrs. Skelton said the Social Security Board has been the best initiative made by the Government of the BVI. 

Persons whose employment has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic are urged to apply for unemployment relief support.
