Madam Speaker, the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Department of Waste Management are diligently working towards our long terms goals in the area waste management for this Territory, and it gives me great pleasure to inform this Honourable House that new equipment to process glass waste collected through our WE RECYCLE Programme is operational at Pockwood Pond.

The public is notified that the Department of Waste Management will be hosting a community meeting for the residents of Anegada on Monday, February 19 from 11:00 a.m. at the community centre. 

The Department of Waste Management has launched a new large-scale Glass Crusher as it seeks to promote recycling Territory wide.

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent Wheatley and members of the media are featured during a demonstration session on the operation and importance of the Glass Crusher to the recycling process of waste in the Virgin Islands.

The public is notified that effective Monday January 22, the operating hours of the Virgin Gorda Landfill site [dumpsite] will be changed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to the new hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

The public is notified that the Pockwood Pond dumpsite is now open following a fire that occurred on Saturday December 9.

New protocols implemented by the Department of Waste Management  continues to result in early notifications, which led to swift action to extinguish an early morning blaze at the Pockwood Pond Dumpsite.

Director of Waste Management, Mr. Marcus Solomon has said that his department has received the incinerator’s transfer arms as it makes steady strides in bringing the facility at Pockwood Pond back online.

The Department of Waste Management will be meeting with residents of District 3 on Thursday November 16 to re-introduce the Litter Abatement Programme.

The first meeting will be held at 11:00 a.m. for the business community while the second session will cater to the public at 6:00 p.m. at the Valarie O. Thomas Community Centre. 

The community is encouraged to attend and provide feedback as the department seeks a way forward.

The Department of Waste Management is accepting bids for the design, construction and installation of a security booth for the entrance to the Incinerator Plant at Pockwood Pond.
