All parents and guardians with students attending public school are reminded that midterm break is Friday, October 22. 

The Virgin Islands is observing Anti Bullying Week from Sunday, October 17 to Saturday, October 23 under the theme “One Kind Word”.

The week commencing 17^th October marks the start of Anti-bullying week in the Virgin Islands. Anti-bullying week is a time when school counsellors join others around the world to bring awareness to bullying of children and young people, and to highlight the need to stop it. This behavior occurs from adult to children and young persons as well as among peers. This year’s theme is, “One Kind Word”. 

Today, October 5^th is celebrated as World Teachers’ Day around the world. The theme for this year is “Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery.

Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley is reiterating the importance of developing a love for reading as the Territory gears up to observe ‘Reading is Fun Week’ from October 10 to 16.

The public is notified that the Ministry of Education will be observing Sunday, September 12 as the day of prayer for Education in the Virgin Islands. 

Secretary General of the BVI National Commission for UNESCO, Dr. Allison Flax-Archer has said that as the Territory celebrates 2021 International Literacy Day, UNESCO and National Commissions worldwide will be endorsing the right to literacy, the cultivation of literacy and digital skills by everyone for a human-centered recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.

The public is advised of the following special dates for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture and public schools.

Educators across the Virgin Islands were encouraged to keep inspiring each other as they move forward into the new academic school year at their annual Teachers Professional Day on August 23.

The public is invited to participate in the Department of Culture’s Virgin Islands Proverbs and Poems Poetry competition.
