Key Stage Assessment (KSA) is a formative assessment given to identify gaps and improve learning. KSA is currently assessed at the Grade 2, 4, and 6 levels across two subject levels: English Language Arts and Mathematics.
The Exit Proficiency Exam (EPE) is the British Virgin Islands’ standards-based assessment program for secondary students. The EPE currently tests two subjects: English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students are required to earn a passing score of 55% or higher on the EPE in English and Mathematics as part of their graduation requirements.
The Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) is an institution that provides regional and internationally recognized secondary school leaving examinations relevant to regional needs. The CXC is recognised internationally as the qualification for entry into tertiary institutions in countries such as the United States, the UK, and Canada.
The Virgin Islands High School Certificate Programme is designed for persons over the age of 18 to complete their secondary education. Registration forms can be collected and submitted at the Ministry of Education located on the third floor of the Ward's Building in Road Town.
The Alternative Secondary Education Programme is designed for people over the age of 18 to complete their secondary education; provided the candidate is not already or concurrently enrolled in another secondary programme.
Exemption Processing for Work Permit holders based on
i. Exemption by Marriage;
ii. Exemption by Residing in the Virgin Islands consecutively for fifteen (15) years or more; and
iii. Exemption by Minister’s Discretion.
As part of the Department of Culture’s mandate to promote the Literary Arts of the Virgin Islands, the Department offers assistance to local authors in launching their books through Book Launch Ceremonies. All local authors qualify for this service; however, assistance is also offered to expatriate residents whose books are about the Virgin Islands history and/or culture.
The Department of Culture is able to provide some information on the history and culture of the Virgin Islands. Very often, students would source the Department for assistance with their culture or history projects.
